SEA ICE LANDING | 10.04.12

Extreme Weather Gear ON as new and old capture the moment and we prepare to exit the aircraft

Plane Pose #1

Plane Pose #2

Full view of the "Airbus". Cute toot!

Distance from Airbus to "Ivan the Terra Bus" our transport vehicle to shuttle us from the runway to McMurdo for our debriefing

Getting closer.... I love the sea of red.

Successful trek!  The wheels are very nearly 5 feet tall as you can see...

This young gentleman is a beautiful example of the "typical" McMurdo population. And I love it.

All piled in Ivan The Terra Bus warm and cozy in our Big Reds ready to hit the town.

Exceptionally warm and comfortable conditions indicated on the 'weather channel'. It's so nice to arrive to such pleasant weather after so many days of trying to get here!

spectacularly warm !

3 (green) = good conditions (visibility, temperature and wind);
2 (yellow) = not great conditions but you can still technically work in them;
1 (red) = you should not leave the building you are in - let alone travel under these circumstances as it would be extremely dangerous.

Interesting historical data; keep in mind that 0C is the freezing tempurature of fresh water while approximately -1.86C is the freezing temp of salt water. 7C in October is extremely high...
