Once we've obtained a fish or two and have transported them back to the station we record length, weight, location of catch and perhaps a few other things. Here is a simple, but useful measurement contraption we use often:
A fish out of water - but only for a second while we collect length and weight info.
This very patient fish is giving us The Eye and is ready to go back into the water:
Below are a few shots of some Antarctic fish in the holding tanks at the Crary Lab where fresh sea water is pumped in and out continuously.
