THE JETTY | 10.09.12

TRAINING COMPLETE

With most of the training out of the way and the lab unpacked - we are just waiting, waiting, waiting for a vehicle... I'm such a brat! Hahaha!

We decide to head to the jetty because it is within walking distance and there is already a dive hole in place that we can fish from. Apparently this is a SUN DOG!!!! It was a magnificent...

Here is the dive hole which is kept open with this tube. There is a fan at the top capturing warm air from the stove and forcing it towards the water's surface.

Ice crystals quickly reform.

Below, Brad is scooping out the newly formed ice on top that hasn't had a chance to completely solidify as the hole attempts to close in on itself sealing in the creatures below.

Here is an example of some of the creatures you can find below. This is a touch tank in the Crary Lab.

Dan catches the first one for Bravo-308 of the season!

Here is an extremely awkward picture of me catching my first fish of the season

And here I'm struggling to unhook the poor thing...

Alas, the boss catches one as well (below)

BRAVO-308!!!!! On a fishin' mission...

On this beautiful, crisp day we are just getting ready to drop the homemade fish trap (left) and to bring back some Fish Friends (as I like to call them) in those gatorade coolers you see. They are rigged with a few bubblers and duct tape and actually hold the proper temperature quite appropriately - it's clearly a very sophisticated system.
